Update

Hi!

I just wanted to let you know about three great performances I have coming up in the next two weeks.

The first is Monday, May 2 at 7:30 in Ted Mann Concert Hall with the University of Minnesota Jazz Ensembles. This concert is a tribute to the Count Basie Big Band. As an interesting twist, there will be two pianos on stage. I’ll be on one, and former Dakota Combo pianist Joe Strachan will be on the other. Rumor has it we might be playing at the same time!

The second is Thursday, May 5 at 7:00 at the Artists’ Quarter with the Dakota Combo. We’ll be playing a wide selection of tunes, a few from our Mingus repertoire, and a few others. Although the AQ doesn’t serve food, it’s possible to get takeout from Great Waters and Wild Tymes, both nearby, and bring it into the AQ. You can get your drinks on site at the AQ. This is a great jazz club, the show is free, and if you want to stay afterwards, you can listen to Vicky Mountain with the Chris Lomheim Trio at 9:00 for $5.

The third is the Dakota Combo Final Concert on Thursday, May 12 at 8:00 in Antonello Hall at MacPhail Center for Music. This concert will be recorded live, so plan to applaud heartily! This concert is also free.

Hope to see you at any and all of these events!

March Update

Hi everyone!

A (very) belated thank you to everyone who came out to the Dakota on January 21 to hear the Trio. It was a fun event for us, and I hope you enjoyed it! Audio from this event can be downloaded here.

Since then, I’ve had a busy two months. The Dakota Combo was in New York on February 19 and 20 for the Mingus High School Competition. We played three tunes: So Long Eric, Orange Was the Color of Her Dress, and Reincarnation of a Lovebird. We had a great time, and won the Mingus Spirit Award! Thanks to the Manhattan School of Music for their hospitality.

Lastly, my next performance is on Thursday, March 24 at 8:00 pm in Antonello Hall at MacPhail Center for Music. This is part of MacPhail’s Jazz Thursdays series. I am not playing in the entire concert, but I am sitting in with the band on one tune. I hope to see you there!
